Flux Sunday, 3/8/15

(Post and photos by Alisha Spielmann with an assist from August Schulenburg.)

(What is Flux Sunday?)

We returned to Judson for a tag-team effort where Gus launched the Flux Sunday with the help of daughter Mercena, before tagging out to Alisha, who brought the Sunday home. It was a smaller turn-out than usual, but much theatre magic was made all the same. Talking animals, the chiming lights of midnight and schemes against your mother? Yup, it was another Flux Sunday.

Playwrights:  Katherine Burger (Animal Attraction), Gina Femia (Untitled), Jason Tseng (AirBnB)

Directors: Pete Boisvert, Christine Zagrobelny

Actors: Ken Glickfeld, Adriana Jones, Antonio Minino, Heather Lee Rogers, Nandita Shenoy, Brian Silliman, Jane Lincoln Taylor

Highlights included:

  • The comic joy of animals and humans misfiring their various attractions;
  • Jane’s focused yet soft Penelope;
  • Heather’s communication frustration with Ken’s character;
  • The wonderful sister-like quality (maybe they are?) that Heather and Adriana had in their final scene;
  • Nandita’s hilarious take on a Korean mother who is definitely older than she actually is;
  • The hysterical confrontation of the “cleaning men”;
  • Watching Antonio’s character try to sway his mother to detour the plans she has in her head. 🙂

If you were there, what moments would you weave into your memory shroud?
