FluxWest FluxSunday 1

FluxWest FluxSunday 1

So, hi from the left coast!

Let’s start with some truths universally acknowledged:

  • It’s super sunny out here (the Day Star is strong in this land)
  • Angelenos are alarmingly friendly (so much eye contact!)
  • And I miss the frak out of Flux.

So, while I am living in a house which can best be described as a modest but cheery yellow castle, my artistic home still felt 3000 miles away.

But wait! A castle, you say? Surely, we can fit a few more people around the table! Surely, a small 2-hander can rehearse in the living room! And, surely, there’s enough straight-up badassery in this town for a Flux Sunday! Turns out that was all true (and don’t call me, Shirley). So we had our first Sunday at FluxWest, and it went something like this…

Playwrights: Brian Pracht, Pikeys; E.D. Brown, The Source; Ned Thorne, Not If, But When; Leo Shvedsky, The Admiral

Directors: E.D. Brown; Rachael Hip-Flores, Brian Pracht

Actors: Kitty Lindsay, Susan Louise O’Connor, Anna La Madrid, Kira Pearson, Leo Shvedsky, Derek Houck, Ned Thorne

Highlights included:

Pikeys Table Read

  • A kickoff table read of the first act of Brian’s pilot, Pikeys, featuring a rousing musical number that we worked on for THREE MONTHS (in the instant) just for him!

Kitty and Anna

  • Kitty and Anna’s positivity force field battle in D’s non-romantic-romantic-comedy The Source

The Admiral

  • Susan Louise’s brassy 70-year-old Mrs. Rozner blackmailing Derek’s pot dealing Stan in Leo’s hilarious The Admiral

Not If, But When

  • A creative team made entirely of Flux Sunday newcomers – Ned, D, Kira, and Leo – staging all of the apocalyptic relationship drama Not If, But When.

Yeah, dudes, that all happened. I think it went awesomely, loved seeing the familiar faces meet the new ones, and can’t wait til next time!
