Flux Sunday, 1/6/13

Post and pathetic iPhone photos by August Schulenburg.

(What is Flux Sunday?)

Flux Sunday returned after our long Hearts Like Fists and holiday hiatus! With Judson not available, we had to read scenes instead of staging them, which, while not quite as satisfying, was still a great reckoning in a little room.

Playwrights: Katherine Burger (The Hunger Season), Nat Cassidy (Breakaway Station), Lauren Ferebee (The Big Sad), August Schulenburg (Stepping), Adam Szymkowicz (Happy Fun Christmas Sexytime), Roland Tec (Kennedy V)

Actors: Isaiah Tanenbaum, Carissa Cordes, Stephanie Willing, Heather Lee Rogers, Emily Hartford, Ken Glickfeld, Ridley Parson, Chester Poon, Alisha Spielmann, Sarah Amandes, David Del Grosso, Jennifer Tsay, Lori E. Parquet, Melissa Herion, Jen Kipley, Jane Taylor, Marielle Duke, Gabby Sherba, Michael Criscuolo, Corey Allen, Rachael Hip-Flores, Cotton Wright

Highlights included:

-Jane Taylor tearing it up as an apocalyptic (and seductive) cowgirl in Lauren’s evocative new play, The Big Sad
-Finishing Roland’s big, beautiful epic, Kennedy V, with Ridley finishing out his turn as Teddy Kennedy.
-The gender-bending, tag-team showdown between Nat and Cotton as Frederick and Lori and Corey as Gaylordin Katherine’s The Rainy Season.
-Every part of Adam’s hilarious new play, Happy Fun Christmas Sexy Time, but especially Sata.
-Sarah Amandes proving she may be the only actor capable of playing both a hyper-intelligent and playfully meddling computer and a socially awkward but secretly passionate male history teacher at a boy’s school.
-Corey can sing! as we discovered happily in our scene from Stepping.
-Gabby’s emotionally translucent read of Poppy in A Body Is…

If you were there, what will you remember from this first Fluxation of 2013?
